The story
Oberon is the outermost large moon of Uranus and its second largest; Herschel found it with Titania in 1787. It has an old, heavily cratered surface, and the crater floors are filled with dark material that may be carbon-rich matter leaking from inside. A mountain about 11 km high was imaged on its limb.
The surface has carbon-stained ice and some water ice; the temperature is below −200 °C.
Missions
- Voyager 2 (1986): a pass at 470,600 km
Colony note
Hard: very cold, very dark. A base for ice.
