What is Aster?
Aster is a free site that gathers your BOINC volunteer-computing work on one page, works out your ranking from the projects’ public data and makes animated GIFs for your forum signature.
Do I need an account?
No. Type a name and create a profile. If you sign in with your Athena account the profile is tied to it and opens from any device.
Which BOINC projects are supported?
Projects that are running and publish their statistics: Einstein@Home, Rosetta@home, MilkyWay@home, LHC@home, Asteroids@home, PrimeGrid, NumberFields, Amicable Numbers, yoyo@home, NFS@Home and more. Credit is read from the project, never typed by hand.
How are the rank and “Rank %” calculated?
The user lists the projects publish every day are processed. Rank is the number of users with more credit than you plus one; Rank % is the share of users you are ahead of.
How is the carbon figure worked out?
The computer’s power from the makers’ figures for the parts you pick, its run time and your country’s average grid carbon intensity are multiplied. If you type a measured wall power, that is used. Details are in the guide.
How do I put the signature on a forum?
Pick a theme on your profile, copy the BBCode, HTML or Markdown code and paste it into your forum signature field. The GIF refreshes every half hour.
