The story
Ring Anchorage sits right beside Saturn’s rings, off the ring plane. Sunlight is about a hundredth of Earth’s; the panels give only 4 MW and the real power comes from 24 RTGs. Shielded hangars protect crews from ring particles.
Ring ice is turned into water and fuel; the port is a junction for Titan and Enceladus. Saturn’s rings are 280,000 km wide but only about ten metres thick in most places: the thinnest large structure in the world.
Missions
- Real counterparts: Cassini (2004–2017), the Grand Finale
Colony note
A port, not a settlement. Only members of the Terra Empire may dock (join from the War tab).
What probes bring back
- Saturn’s rings are 280,000 km wide but only about ten metres thick in most places, with less than half the mass of Mimas.
- Cassini’s Grand Finale (2017) dived between the rings 22 times and measured the ring material raining down.
