The story
Kepler-62 f, found in 2013, is a ‘super-Earth’: radius about 1.4 Earths and a 267-day year. It lies on the outer edge of the habitable zone of a K-type orange star and receives about 40 % of the light Earth gets. Climate models show it could have liquid water on the surface with enough CO₂ and a few clouds; most likely an ocean world or an ice-covered one.
Its neighbour Kepler-62 e is hotter and smaller. A five-planet system and one of the ‘most Earth-like’ candidates; but 1,200 light-years is some 20 million years for the fastest probes we have.
Missions

- Future: atmosphere surveys with JWST
Colony note
An ocean or ice surface; a Mk2 shield and cryo sleep. Sythe territory.
What probes bring back
- Found in 2013: radius ≈ 1.4 Earths, a 267-day year, about 40 % of the sunlight Earth gets.
- A ‘super-Earth’ in the habitable zone: most likely an ocean or ice world.
