The story
Kepler-186 f was found in 2014 by the Kepler space telescope: the first Earth-sized exoplanet in the habitable zone of its star. About 580 light-years away towards Cygnus, its star is a red dwarf smaller and cooler than the Sun.
It receives about a third of the light Earth gets from the Sun: the outer edge of the zone. Its mass and atmosphere are unknown; the values here are catalogue estimates. In 2014 Kepler became the first telescope to find an Earth-sized planet in such a zone.
