The story
Eurybates was found in 1973 in the Greek camp of Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids (L4, about 60° ahead of Jupiter). A dark C-type, it is the largest of its own collisional family, a cluster left from the breakup of a larger body.
Lucy is due to visit in 2027; its small moon Queta was already known. The Trojans are thought to be unaltered material left over from the Solar System’s first days.
Missions
- Lucy (NASA, planned 2027): a flyby
Colony note
